2019 December 22: Reflector, shift lever, generator (4.00 hours)

Updated:

  • Fit fender reflectors to front and rear fenders. Used re-pop rubbers and reflectors with original chrome trim rings (then re-pop chrome trim rings are way too tight).
  • Removed the pinch bolt from the foot shift pedal (it was contacting the header pipe). I put the bolt in a hand drill, then spun the hand drill against my running bench grinder. This provides an easy way to remove material in a uniform manner without real machining equipment (which I don't have). I angled the Allen head of the bolt. This provided sufficient clearance and it no longer hits the header pipe.
  • I removed the generator and discovered that it would not operate as a DC motor. I disassembled the generator and discovered the that the armature was coming into contact with one of the pucks that secures the field coils to the body of the generator. Turns out the screw holding the puck was not tight enough. After tightening it up, it no longer makes contact and the generator operates as a DC motor (during bench testing).
