2017 December 15: Assembly (5.00 hours)
Updated:
- Finished cleaning the breather. Gave it two coats of primer.
- Fit the swing arm with a new universal joint boot. Pivot bearings were packed with grease and new seals fit. The pivot pins needed to be cleaned and the threads cleaned up. Everything fits very well now and there is plenty of anti-seize and grease to prevent future corrosion. I applied
Wurth 3000 Super Grease
to the splines on the output shaft of the tranmission. - Fit the passenger foot pegs with reinforcement plates on the inside of the frame. Shortened a pair of 30 mm stainless steel bolts to 25 mm to mount these. It is so nice not having to worry about corrossion (due to removed plating) when making these modification to stainless steel bolts.
- The transmission shift linkage I installed last weekend interfered with the swing arm. I did some re-positioning but I'm still not thrilled with the result. Nothing hits, but I'm not using a long bolt and brass tube spacer to move the linkage further left of the lower shift mount. I worry this will not endure the shifting forces. I'm going to run this past Charlie Mullendore for his opinion. At the very least, I need to switch from at stainless steel bolt to a hardened steel bolt.
- I fit upper and lower shock mount bolts.
- I fit a temporary bar in place to keep the swing arm from moving around (up and down). The bar is secured to the upper and lower shock mounts on the left side.
