Like Kev said ,you have chain not gear cam drive . They are notorious
for failing and make noises like you described. It would be worthwhile
in any event, at your mileage to service that area now. Valtek makes a
good replacement for the factory "tensioner" and new chain /sprocket
sets are available from Larry at GT Motors 517-485-6815 . Larry also has
the Valtek and a lot of sage advice.
