I used those same nuts on my last two bikes and they work fine like they are. The rougher the better I say. Makes for a sure grip when you have it tightened in there.

Well, looks like you can look at the sunny side of your mis-fortune. You don't have to pay to have the threads renewed, plus shipping, That alone will pay most of the cost of new headers. And you end up with a brand new set shiney headers. So it all balances Huh?
I have a new set of those 'locking' header nuts. But the threads sure look rough on them., should I try to clean them up a little before I put them on? Thanks, Ron B
I tried all the tricks already suggested....bought tools...heat ......beer you name it. No Dice. The one good thing was that the pipes were not seized to the nut, I moved the starboard pipe up as high as it would go. I then ground of the plating on the nuts and the header pipes.
I silver soldered/brazed the nut to the pipe. I spoke a few magic words and then started heaving on the pipe.Downwards on the starboard side. It
broke lose and I then cut the pipe leaving enough room for a pipe wrench. Extreme measures! I agree and resulting in new header pipes but then mine were rusty so no loss. Much cheaper to put new pipes than chroming old ones. Dorien
