I did mine the shadetree mechanic way. That is no
books. No special tools. (Because I didn't have any).
I used a small amount of sisicone to keep the springs
form falling out. I set everything in place. Used the
tranny hub to get the center aligned. A couple fo
bolts in place loosely. Tilted the engine forward as
far as it would go. Tightened 2 bolts until they just
touched but I could still move the discs with a
screwdriver through the holes. I used small tapered
wooden dowels through the outer holes in the pressure
plate. These centered the discs. When everything
looked perfect by eyeball I started tightening the
bolts making sure that the outer teeth lined up by
looking through the holes and moving them with a
screwdriver. Once I got the teeth engaged and a enough
pressure on the discs to keep them from slipping I
removed the dowels. Believe it or not I've done this
twice and it worked both times. Never took more than a
jalf hour to get everything lined up properly. Just
make sure you don't 'tighten' the bolts until the gear
teeth are lined up.
When you don't have the equipment or the bucks you do
what you gotta do.

I am a shad tree
mechanic at best. What level of expertise is
required? I have been quoted
$700 is that reasonable?
