My take on tire width after trying a variety of sizes on my Ambo. Yes, some
of these tires look better than others in the fenders, but I don't mention
that in the descriptions below because from the saddle you cant tell how they
look but you can tell how they perform & performance is what I am most
concerned with.
110 rear/110 front
Very stable if your into highway riding.
I hated this combination, it took lots of effort to make it turn & very slow
steering.
120 rear/110 front
A little faster steering but still quite stable, a good set up for those that
want stability but still want to take on a few turns every once in a while.
120 rear/100 front
Contrary to what others have said, I still found this quite stable but the
steering was so much better it was amazing. I have run this combination for
several years.
110 rear/90 front
Probably not the set up for the highway rider but because of tire sizes in
race compounds this is what I'm running on the V-700 racebike. Never had a
problem with stability at WOT but it definitely turns quicker than the
120/100 combination. I'm putting this set up on my Ambassador next tire
change.
