good question and one I asked a while ago. Well, now that I've
actually done it, I can let ya know the things that made it easier
for me. First of all the opposed V-design of the engine seemed
to make it really hard to lay the bike over sideways and slip
the frame over the engine...so I didn't even try past a bit of head
scratching.

This is on an Ambo, but should be pretty close to what you'd need to
do on an Eldo. On the frame I ended up pulling the coil, coil bracket,
throttle splitter and bracket and pretty much anything that limited
clearance between the top of the engine and the frame. On the engine,
I pulled the generator cover, generator and mounting bracket, oil breather
assembly, distributor and cap, carbs and intake manifolds ( so I wouldn't
be tempted to use them as handles). I jacked up the engine a bit and pulled
the last two bolts. I lubricated my neighbor with a couple of cold ones
and we each grabbed ahold of the engine. He took the trany end; I took the
front. We moved it forwards a bit; rotated the engine to the side and upwards
and slipped it out.

In hindsight it may have been easier to split the engine and transmission
first, especially if one is going to be doing it after they pull the engine
anyways.
