To find somewhere to get it tested, ya gotta find a starter/alternator shop
that is preferrably run by an oder gent who knows what a generator is, much
less how to hook it up and test it. I went to 3 different such shops
(without the older dude) that told me they didn't even look at generators.
Finally went to the one with the old dude...(sigh) charged me $1.00 to hook
it up and tell me it was putting out 35-40 amps (!!!!) and 14 volts.
It seems like I was told one time to truly test a generator, you had to
remove it cos the regulator and electrical draw messed with testing. Go
ahead..take it out...tisn't all that hard.
Good luck

That's always a possibility. I checked the resistance in the ground wire on the regulator. It was high. SO I made a new one using alligator clips to check it. After establishing that that had nearly 0 resistance, the charge doesn't work.
Possible. Fortunately I have an aftermarket one courtesy of Jason at Moto Int'l to try. 3) bad brushes on the generator Tha's why I am looking for a quick test to run (hopefully with the gen in place) I may have to pull it out. or 4) incorrect hookup (hard to do, but can be done) I re-checked it. I don't see how it could be wrong. It's only a few wires. But it is a possibility.
No kidding. But I am in the land of hotrods (snohomish, Wa) and have yet to find a decent auto parts/shop. _________________________________________________________________ Get your FREE download of MSN Explorer athttp://explorer.msn.com --- Sponsor's Message -------------------------------------- Need Tech Help?
