All,
As you likely know......generator and VR need to be like types. I mean both
have to be Marelli or Bosch. I don't believe they are interchangable.
While we are on the topic of generators....
I finally got my 69 fired up. Amazing how these old birds will immediately
kick in even after 5 months of sitting. As she was idling I was thinking
about all this generator talk...so I dropped a voltmeter on it. Seems that
at idle the generator narely puts out enough voltage...which of course
lights up the warning light. I would guess that the idle speed is about
500rpms? As soon as I rev the engine slightly the light goes out and the
voltage indicates a good 14.5V.
Sounds like everything is ok with the generator but I was wondering if it
was normal to get a low voltage output like that when the rpm's are low.
This isn't really bothering me...in fact I kind of like seeing the light
come on and go off as I up the idle a bit.....then at least I know it's
working :-)
Unfortunately now I have a real dilemma. Do I take the 69 to the Western NY
Rally or my recently restored to original 70 Ambo? :-)
Regards....Ian

Green with a black frame. The rattle can calls it Forest Green. Of course after I had worked my ass off sanding painting sanding rinse repeat...I discover a coworker's dad is a retired body and fender shop owner. He still has a shop that he just does occasional work in. H offered to paint the bike....oh well. this winter maybe. The charging system is still giving me fits. I swapped in another Marelli generator - zip. I sanded all the connections on the regulator - nada. I swapped in another voltage regulator (may not be marelli compatible) - |
So I'm down to finding out who the local generator wizard is. |
