Hi Brett,

I've actually already given John Schwartz a call. His advice was to play
around with the shift adjustment screw on the back cover (the big, flat
tipped screw) and see if that made any difference. He also said that
sometimes 4 speed transmissions can be very aggravating (if not
impossible) to get to shift correctly.

So, I've played around with the adjustment screw some, but with very
little effect. I do need to spend some more time playing with this
adjustment, but I'm not very hopeful.

I really like the four speed, so I'd rather not give up and just go to a
5 speed transmission if I don't have to.

with
80,000 miles on it (and shifter forks only had slight wear), and now
works very
well, I don't think that is your problem. The problem may be in the guts
of
that outer cover..although I do not know if you can remove that without
pulling
tranny. Anyway, I would recommend calling John Schwartz in Northern
California for diagnosis on your tranny. The man knows them inside and
out. Perhaps
Mark Eldridge will share his number and I have misplaced it....or it is
in a
pile of paper in a drawer in my garage...and I'm not there right now.
