Hi Ted,

Thanks for the suggestion. I gave that a try this morning before work
but it had no effect :<. Just to make sure I wasn't completely crazy, I
also checked to be sure that clutch arm attached to the back of the
transmission was not hitting anything when I disengaged the clutch. So,
I'm back to thinking I need to pull the transmission and replace the
gear selector forks.

Hi Greg
I have a 70 ambo and have had same problem as you are! Twice it
happened just like your 4 speed. The first time years ago I put a new
clutch in and it was like a new tranny in the bike. Shifted like new!!
Second time it happened was last year after I broke a Clutch cable. I
had the cable ajustment set up too loose amd not enough disengagment.
Being a old Dirtbiker we have a bad habit of setting up the clutch
ajustment with not enough disengament for speed shifting and Guzzi
clutches with that middle plate need as much disengament as it can get.
After setting up the cable for full disengament the problem went away.
Cheap fix if you have`t tryed it
Cheers TED

Hi John,

I'm not having any problem with anything popping out of gear. It's just
like there is something inside that is binding things up and not
permitting the shift lever to return to a 'static' position (in both up
and down movements). When it happens, I have to use my toe to get the
shifter back into the 'static' position. Then, it may or may not shift
properly from there. I think I have fewer problems when I use a very
light movement on the shift pedal (almost a springing motion). But, then

again, I may just be getting suppositious! Again, this problem is more
pronounced when moving between 2nd and 3rd gears, especially on the
downshift.

gears than any other combination (although 2nd to 1st is
problematic, too). This leaves me contemplating the gear selector
forks inside the transmission.

The reason I replaced my shift forks, was that it popped out of gear
when bench testing after shimming. The faces were wore enough so it did

not push'em far enough to "lock" in place. With the drum flopping
around forward or aft before shimming, it "moved" where it needed to, to

allow engagement.

If your's are dropping in place okay....????

Later,
JU
