Having just rebuilt a 4-speed last winter with all new bearings, etc. with
80,000 miles on it (and shifter forks only had slight wear), and now works very
well, I don't think that is your problem. The problem may be in the guts of
that outer cover..although I do not know if you can remove that without pulling
tranny. Anyway, I would recommend calling John Schwartz in Northern
California for diagnosis on your tranny. The man knows them inside and out. Perhaps
Mark Eldridge will share his number and I have misplaced it....or it is in a
pile of paper in a drawer in my garage...and I'm not there right now. Brett in
