Hi Noel, I use a Petrochem cable luber and their lube also. It comes as a kit for $15 from most motorcycle shops and mailorder from Dennis Kirk. DKs part no. is 31-32. The luber clamps around one cable end and the lube is squirted into it. Only problem is with smaller cables like throttle cables the luber won't clamp down far enough. A little duct tape wrapped around the cable end to bring it up to the required diameter is all that's needed. However large (over 3/8" dia.) cables won't fit into the luber, so you just have to dribble it down the cable (and on to your shoes and pants and...). I have had some success with just putting the squirter hose of the lube can as close to the inner cable a possible and tightly holding a shop towel around the cable and squirter hose. Works kinda' like the luber, but dribbles more.
In any case, you'll probably never achieve a throttle as easy as your buddy's Jackal. Two square-slide Dellortos will never be as easy as two FI throttle bodies. But lubing will make the best of what you've got. Go ahead and lube the rest of the control cables as well. You'll be amazed at the difference it makes!
From the "Tips Book #1" - Fill a balloon with the lube of your choice. Insert the cable end into the opening of the balloon and clamp tightly. Squeeze balloon carefully to force the lube through the cable. CAUTION, later in the tips book it says that the balloon burst once while this was being demonstrated. Try at your own risk! :-)
Cheers, Charlie

Hi guys-
Just replaced my rear drive seals after a massive gear oil leak. Seems that the installer (A Winchester, VA concern) sold the guy I bought my ambo from a bill of goods when they rebuilt his destroyed U-joint. The "new" gear they put in was used, and to top it off, they boogered it (scored)up when they put it in. The seal held for a while, then failed. There is a lesson here somewhere...
For a newbie-what's your favorite method for lubricating throttle cables???? My palm has calluses and I've developed a big right forearm.... I drove my friend's new Jackal lasst night and I almost did a wheelie when I accidently goosed the free-turning throttle...
Many thanks,

I've seen several problems with old 2 into 1 cable set ups on Loops. All cured by retro fitting twin cable Tomaselli units as fitted to 70/80's Guzzis.
Easier to set up and if either cable snaps you still get home. Prudent riders only need carry 1 spare too.

John: The normal tension of the throttle shouldn't be enough to pop that ball out continuously. As others have mentioned, it might be a
throttle
cable going bad. However before you go out and buy new cables, check
the
cable splitter attached to the frame rail under the tank. If this is gummed up it could be the source of the problem, and a good lube might be a cheap fix.
