I just did it. Tranny comes out just fine.
You have to jack up the back of the motor a couple inches and I had to undo
the shocks to get the swingarm back far enough.
Just read the clutch section on Guzziology. My copy is a few years old, but
Dave suspects without facts to back up that the hubs may stick if not lubed
with some heavy grease. A mall amount will do and it should be heavy paste
so that it wont migrate to the clutch plates themselves.

The brake is enough to hold it in place but sometimes the engine stalls. When I had the engine out for a oil seal work a few years back, I got new clutch discs but didn't upgrade to the deeper hub (stupid me!); the old hub looked good but I guess not good enough. To ask the obvious, isn't it true I have to remove the engine and tranny to do a clutch R&R rather than just the tranny?
