I have to agree with Ian, I've always made sure mine was centered, by measuring each side. Each side should be tight and protruding the same length out. To get the studs out I use two ground flat nails clampped in needlenose visegrips.I also put alittle anti-sieze on those fine threads.

No you don't have to remove the engine/trans assemby. The trans will come out without the engine. Start tearing the bike down at the rear. I remove the rr wheel/ swingarm together. The rr brake linkage has to come apart before it can come over the frame. Put that aside, remove anything eles that will get in your way. I noticed on Eldo's that the engine may have to be pivoted upward to clear the frame.
