Rick,
If you are having trouble with one cylinder then it may not be timing.
Generally bad timing will affect both cylinders.
Are you sure the distributor cap is on good and tight? Rocker clearances ok?
For dynamic timing you use the left (#2 cylinder). Mark your pully wheel
with a black marker to help see the marks. Just follow the instructions on
the box and you should be ok. Remember these bikes are like a 2 cylinder
slab of a V8 :-)
Right now I would wait on playing with anything till you can double check
the point gap and get that timing light on it. I would also drop on a new
condensor as a precaution. I think you said that you have the carbs good and
clean. Factory set your carbs and go from there.
You will be amazed how a litte nudge of that distributor will change
everything in a giff...then you can go to fine tuning.
Keep us posted....Ian
Hi, Well it looks like the left cylinder decides not to fire all the time. I am about convinced it is the timing as I haven't put a light on it yet. I have both sides firing now but it is poping alot. Plugs are burning black and the mufflers as well, but I need to do a real road test once the timing is set up. I wish you could see it now with the seat and battery covers on it, if I had it running as good as it looks I'd be riding everyday :-). I am going to try to get a timing light this week, but I am not sure how to use it on a Guzzi, do I use the inductor on the left cylinder plug or the right ect, I followed the Guzzi manual by setting the left cylinder TDC |
adjusted lifters and visual on open points on the correct cylinder. Boy once that other cylinder kicked in it really sounds like a VTwin :-). Rick |
