And if you don't have access to a lathe, just use a hacksaw to take off big chunks of the "offending" lip on the velocity stacks. Then use a file to smooth things out. The velocity stacks are made of a relatively soft alloy so this isn't a very hard job.
But getting them on the carbs can be a tight squeeze; leave the first one loose on the carb so that you can rotate the filter to allow the second filter room to maneuver.
