I'd go the heli coil route. Unless you can fuse that material in an inert
environment it most likely won't work.
On my Ambo I tapped out the holes and used 3/8 socket head cap screws. The
holes were thoroughly cleaned b4 the red loctite covered cap screws were
installed and socked home. That was in 1986 and they're still holding.
I used the socket head caps because of their high strength, but grade 8
bolts would work as well.

Here's what I am thinking of duing.
I have some 99% pure aluminum 'shot' from a sience class. I was going to
melt that, and then pout it into the cleaned holes, then retap new holes
into the new aluminum. My concern is that the new metal will not adhere
to the original casting.
Or, JBWeld some studs into the holes. Still, I worry about adherance
issues. I'm talking BIG holes, here!
