No, the rubber grommet is shaped the same as the nylon grommet, it has a
little "barrel" that goes into the metal part of the distrubutor. I'll
double check just to make sure though.

wire going into the distributor touching anywhere along the body of the

Hey Charlie. It's a rubber grommet I found at Ace, but it fit just about
perfectly. The old one was chewed up on the outside but I had the same
problem with it.
I guess I'll give another coil a shot. I'm gonna have enough stuff for a
couple more bikes when all's said and done...

grommet or one specifically made for the distributor? May be allowing
the condenser wire or points to ground a bit. I'll send you an intact
original if you need one.
I agree with the others, try another coil also - perhaps one from NAPA
or the Sorensen (sp?) that Greg and others recommend since they're
