No cap won't fit the other way as it has a locating nub on one side. But
the dist can be installed backwards. Saw this on my first bike I got!
As for the coil, I just checked mine and it's a 3 ohm coil . It could be
your wires are breaking down as they try to transfer a lot of high
voltage. I would get some new wires and try it again. Where are you
located at? How does the wire look that goes from the coil thru the
distributor nylon block to the points? Make sure it's not cracked
anywhere and shorting to ground. The coil from the fire I would toss in
the trash. Coils have fluid and a fiber wrap in them and the fire could
have done nasty things to the inside. The one that was on the bike when
it started acting up is also suspect to me. The new accel you need to
check to see if it's a 3 ohm coil.
