Hmmmm. I wonder if you are getting some kind of arching from the points to the distributor body as you run the bike. That plastic body between the points and the dist body is to prevent grounding. I have seen problems in the past due to this...Could also be bad grounding. Call either Mark at MG Classics or Rick or Gordon at MG Cylce to see if they have the stuff needed.

That thing looks pretty mungy, but I can't for the life of me figure out how to remove it. Even if I dremel'd off the rusty bolt holding it in, it doesn't look like I could get it out because the points assembly and distibutor cam are in the way. Is this as difficult as it looks? Also, the plastic thing that keeps the bolt from contacting ground is really chewed up and I didn't see another of those at MG Cycle anyone know if they are available? Thanks again Ian. For example...let's say a mouse made a nest in one of the pipes....that problem would show up under any condition. You can install the dist eaily enough. Guzziology has a good description of how to do it but you basically have to make sure the left hand cylinder is at TDC on the compression stroke and then insert the dist shaft so that the cam lobe is just at the point of opening the points. Remember that you have to be on the right cam lobe as there are two of them. I think the contact on rotor should point at 6 o'clock...downwards? Also...be sure that the dist adjusting bolt is in the middle of the adjustment range. You know.....I am thinking that if the bike starts to misfire at high rpms....you sure you have the right jets in there? I remember somebody once had all kinds of problems...turns out the PO had installed the wrong jets in it. Either that or they are blocked. ...Ian
