Hi Guys,
Charlie your memory is pretty good despite the time gone by. Yes, I
did post a message a while back about the engine pinging under load. I
just began runing slightly higher RPM's and that seemed to help. I'm not
too crazy about the idea of pulling the heads, and I'm not sure I want
to go squirting water into the carbs at high rpm either. I guess I'll
just try the hard acceleration/decelleration trick some time over the
next few days. The only thing I've noticed is thet the left plug has
some slight carbon deposit like it might be runing a little rich on that
side. Ohterwise the old girl runs great, no problems. Yesterday I took
her out to the north fork of Long Island (2 up), put about 250 miles on
and had a great day.
Thanks for all your input!

Hi Mike and all, Seems I remember a few weeks ago Vince posted a message about having pinging problems, this may be why. Anyone ever tried the "steam cleaning" trick to remove carbon? Water vapor is introduced through the carb. or other inlet opening while the engine is running. The idea is, I guess, that the water vapor turns to steam in the combustion chamber and removes the carbon. Never done it myself, but an old-time shade-tree mechanic friend of my late Dad swore it worked. Cheers, Charlie EldoMike <msse-@classicguzzi.com> wrote:
