Have you checked ALL the other possible causes of pinging ? Is the
timing RIGHT on at 3000 RPM? Guzzis are far beter known for rusted ,weak
advance springs that dump in full advance WAY too early. A bit of oil in
the cylinders degrades the octane rating of the gasoline and can also
contribute to pinging. A modest amount of carbon buildup does no harm
whatsoever. More harm has been done over the years by decarbonizing than
by just leaving it alone.
These are MOTO GUZZIS running modern fuel NOT water cooled Soozookeee
2 stroke triples !
You MAY have a carbon build up ,not likely at all . As I said before
better check all the other possibles before opening what sounds like a
healthy engine and moving carbon around inside of it.
It only takes 5 minutes to check the timing . MAKE SURE TO USE THE
RIGHT MARKS AT THE PROPER SPEED. More than once I have had Guzzi riders
complaining of pinging who SWORE the timing was SPOT ON. Only to find
the timing was WAY off due to the fact they were using the wrong marks
or only checking at idle.
Guzzi advance springs are often overstretched by the person
installing or just plain tired. Probably 1/4 to 1/2 of the older bikes
have bad advance springs but people still tear good engines apart
without first checking the more likely cause.
