YUP!
Old shade tree mechanic trick from back in the old days when the
antique gas was a real problem . The trick was to warm the engine and
squirt a few shots of water into the carb while holding the engine at
high rpm. never heard of any problems getting water into the float bowl.
It doesn't have much choice but to go on into the engine. If you've
ever seen a liquid cooled engine where coolant has seeped into a hot
cylinder you can see how effective it can be.
I would check ALL the other potential sources for pinging before
popping the heads. You can get a ggod llok thru the plug hole.
Unless the carbon buildup is massive MASSIVE! ,it does no harm. Carbon
buildup with modern fuel and oil rarely gets to the point where it
creates any concern.

Hi Mike and all, Seems I remember a few weeks ago Vince posted a message about having pinging problems, this may be why. Anyone ever tried the "steam cleaning" trick to remove carbon? Water vapor is introduced through the carb. or other inlet opening while the engine is running. The idea is, I guess, that the water vapor turns to steam in the combustion chamber and removes the carbon. Never done it myself, but an old-time shade-tree mechanic friend of my late Dad swore it worked. Cheers, Charlie EldoMike <msse-@classicguzzi.com> wrote:
