I have to agree, I think both bikes (I rode a '72 /5 for a summer) instill a
sense of confidence....of course I also rode my panhead for 20 years before
getting into Guzzi...I bought my first Guzzi in '95 one week before the
National in Arkansas....it was a 71 Ambassador that had been sitting in a
garage for four years. I cleaned the carbs, put on a new battery and rode
that sucker across Arkansas(some of you might remember seeing it as it was
painted Tennesse Orange)...been hooked ever since!

I beg to differ. I think both bikes (/5 /6 and Ambo/Eldo) have a comerable
reliability and ease of maintenance. I only have two special tools for the
Beemer. A wrench for the exhaust nut and a clutch centering tool. There is
another I want to get the tranny apart and in that aspec, I think the
Guzzi
is easier to deal with. Getting the tranny apart I mean. But the clutch is
easier to mess with on the beemer and ther tranny comes out easier. It's
just trade offs. Aint one better than the other, just slightly different.
I
 personally like them both.

 Hey Paul,

Some years ago, I picked up an R50/5, and then an R90/6, both becasue
they

were cheap. I hated them both, the R90 most of all. The "technology" of
the

R90 - CV carbs, "improved" ignition, etc., made it a pain in the ass, and
the seat put the pain in my ass. It was the most uncomfortable bike I
ever

owned. They both leaked constantly, and both the needles fell off of the
instruments on the R90. Every maintenance procedure is difficult, and
every

 procedure needs special tools.
