Ian,
Excuse me for butting in. You are right. Even though my bike (69 Ambo)
isn't running correctly right now, when it is running it is one hell of a
ride. It is difficult to compare it to a new ride of any kind. I like the
feel and the sound of an old Guzzi. The new Guzzis feel and sound OK too
but......
Bob

So much nicer that the simple "Moto Guzzi" written on the plain tank. I'll have to head over to the web site and see the colours in real life. As far as the name....I suppose the idea was to create a name that was unique and was a metaphor (maybe not right?) for describing the |
in tough as nails....hard as rock?? Maybe they should have used California Gold? California Stallion? The California Eagle? I think MG is always looking to set their bikes apart from the rest of the field....not a bad idea. We "old time" Loop Guzzi riders have to remember that MGNA is trying to reach out to the "new" Guzzi community. I remember |
few years back MGNA's attitude was to try and get the old Guzzi riders off their Loops and Tontis and onto a new bike. Didn't work for the most part. While we are looking for the retro Eldo or a Ippogriffo (which had the coolest name and paint scheme in my opinion...even if Frank Wedge didn't like it! :-) ) the new riders are looking for something else. As for the black engine.....very cool looking until the paint starts to flake. Ever seen a Jackal or EV that has the grey paint coming off the engine? I have and I can't imagine how bad the contrast of the black paint and aluminum will look. At least with the grey it is close enough to the aluminum that it wasn't that noticible. When that black starts to peel off...it will look terrible. All in all...if MGNA can sell bikes I am happy. However...until they come |
with a bike that will rival my 69 or 70 Ambassadors.....I'll wait. It is hard to look to a new $10k bike after I have just ridden over 700 trouble free miles in a weekend on my trusty ol'69er....and loved every minute of it. OK...off the soap box.
