Is there any way you can tell the condition of the chrome without pulling
the head?
Are there other indicators?

Got some wear of the chrome inside. Guys have been advising me here on the list. I plan to try to replace valve guides and grind valves first. If that doesn't work I will go ahead with a Nikasil piston kit.
