I'm with Matt on this one. If the plug over the top (12 o'clock
position) nut (the one that you tightened with the 10mm allen wrench)
isn't tight or the crush washer doesn't seal well, oil will run down a
"tunnel" cast into the head and drip out just where you describe. With
the tank in place it's kind of hard to get a good look at it, you could
probably hold a mirror between the tank and cylinder head to look down
on/into it. Or just pull the valve cover and use a little sealer (such
as Permatex 300) on the crush washer and plug threads then reinstall
snugly (there's probably a torque figure on Greg's site). Clean the
threads thoroughly before using the sealer. Cheers,

Just went and investigated a little more. Got some Dawn, a toothbrush and a rag to do a little cleaning. The leak is above the head gasket by about two fins. Not from the back side, only in the front (away from the bike). While it runs along the entire front half, intake to exhaust, it seems to be concentrated in the middle at the six o'clock position. This is where the head bolt is below the spark plug. My best guess is this is the source of my leak. I used a torque wrench, should I snug it up some more? |
