Ray,
I got my Wirth progressive springs from Moto International and they
recommended a 1.5" ABS/PVC pre-load spacer. I subsequently put in the
spacers therefore I've no idea how they work without them. But I do use
50wt oil as fork oil to stiffen them up a bit.

I took a peek at Guzziology this morning and Dave simply says that a
piece of 1.5" ABS plumbing pipe can be used as a pre-load for insuffient
spring rates. No indication of where to place. There is a diagram
showing dimensions of this spacer. It shows 1" diameter and 1.5" tall
with a narrower (0.59") diameter at top of the diagram. I'm not sure how
to interpret this. I hope more people check in on what they've done in
this regard, especially the dimensions and placement (top or bottom of
spring). Also, someone once mentioned that with a set of new Wirth
progessive wound springs, no pre-load was necessary. This right?

Huh! My memory is failing me. I'm sure I put mine on the bottom. I used

a 1 1/2" inline coupler/splice unit that I cut 1/2" off each end. It's
probably 1 3/4" od.

I'm not taking it apart to check!!!!
