Or as my grandfather used to say "The early bird may get the worm but
the SECOND mouse gets the CHEESE !"

Bad timing allowed me to become a Guzzi guy... I was living in Fukuoka, Japan for a year in '96 during college and had gotten into motorcycles just before going over there. I bought a Yamaha SR500 (Thumper!) that was retro-styled to look like a Brit-bike but was forced to sell it before returning to the States. I asked my brother to start looking around Detroit for a 70's European bike for me to buy so that I could have a bike waiting when I returned. He found a beautiful 1972 BMW 75/5 Toaster tank and called me to see if I wanted him to pick it up for me.... Here is what I thought was bad luck at the time: I told him I needed to think about it and by the time I called him the next day with the green light to buy it he said "I went ahead and bought it yesterday.... for myself". So here is the where the bad luck starts to turn good: my brother felt bad for kind of buying the bike out from under me so he gave me a 1967 250cc Benelli (Montgomery Wards) that had been sitting in his garage that I quickly fixed up and started to ride. I fell in love with the Italian styling and needed something bigger than the 250cc so I was constantly searching the classified ads. I found a guy in the "thumb" of Michigan that had 2 Eldo projects, a sidehack, and a bunch of parts. I bought the whole lot over the phone without ever seeing them and the Guzzi addiction began. I have since bought two more loops and a Sport and I love them all! Jeff Buick Detroit, MI 1972 Eldo LAPD 1974 Eldo LAPD 1974 Eldo Civilian 1972 V7-Sport |
