I was 17 at the time and next door to my girlfriend was a widow who had a motorcycle stored in the garage. Spent many years trying to strike a deal for price for a very dusty obscure bike with Moto Guzzi on the tank. Full luggage set and extra parts included, but neither of us had a strong desire to close on it.
Fast forward 6 years and when my (future ex) wife's parent passed away, I came into town (Calumet City, Illinois) to pick up a load of furniture in a trailer. I did a quick knock on the widow next door and scored an original 74 Eldo for $500 that had been stored since 1979 with only 8000 miles.
The bike is a euro police bike with 4 LS brakes up front. Factory floor boards, Calafia hard bags and full fairing. Been riding it off and on since I got it in 1986. The only sad note is that the previous (original) owner put a .357 slug through his head late one night in 1979 and it had been stored away until I picked it up that lucky day in 1985.
That loop started an illness that gets worse with each new model of Guzzi. I now have that 74 Eldo, 80 SP1000, and 95 Sport 1100. That makes a guzzi for each decade of the 70s, 80s & 90s. I'm looking for my next 2000 decade model.
