i'm sure it's fine. you've sorted the heavy current draw (starter) just make
sure all other earth points ie. generator, lights, regulator etc. are all
grounded & they all link up.

i'd guess they are ok, or you'd know by now :-)

well.. no wiring wizard here... I skipped the tray all together and took
the negative lead from the battery straight to one of the transmission
nuts precisely because of tray paint issue. This was last summer... did
I compromise some sort of necessary sheetmetal ground? Bill

don't forget to clear paint from around bolt that fixes battery tray to
frame and any other earth points too.

the idea is to get a connection from battery to starter motor that will

 a high amperage.
