Yup, you are correct. They're the same family, displaced by one
protonation step (sorry,but I'm a chemist). Soda ash is sodium
carbonate and baking soda is sodium bicarbonate. The bicarb (NaHCO3)
should be even milder as an abrasive since the density is slightly less.
Na2CO3 is slightly more more dense and more basic, so it prolly cuts
the grease better.
