I went and looked it up and I didn't quite have it right...close,but not
really. For a much better explanation of oils than my feeble mind can give,
see Ed Hackett's "More than you ever wanted to know about motor oil"
http://geocities.com/Heartland/Ridge/7979/Motorcycle/Oilfaq.html

I also found a good article on gasoline.
http://www.utahducati.com/racegas.html

Of course there's also Guzziology which has a good discussion of these
subjects.
I hope this kills all oil and gas threads from now on....as Z said, they are
evil and must be killed at once.
Even more $.02

Modern multiweight oils are made to work backwards from conventional
wisdom...heat makes a higher viscosity, cold makes a lower viscosity.
Even though it doesn't make sense, you need more viscosity at higher
temps
for more protection and lower viscosity at cold temps for easier
starting
and faster lubing of engine parts.

Not an argument, but an observation. The multivis's sure seem to have
lower viscosity when they are warm, when I pour some in the middle of
winter it's like syrup. In summer much more liquid. What you say makes
sense--they are supposed to be like 20W when cold and 50W when hot..

Hmm. Even straight 50W is thin when hot.

Any0one have some illumination???
