Robert,
My observation is that the durometer of the neoprene rings is usually a
bit lower than that of the BUNA, which makes them slighlty softer. The
neoprene usually appears to be a shade darker than the BUNA, but this is
not a reliable indicator. My guess is that the average person would have
a very hard time telling them apart. The reason that you find the
neoprene variety in the hardware store is because it is suitable for use
in potable water systems.
