scratch my message, after reading all of the other posts, me memory came
hauntingly back and I remembered he had to pull the tranny (more than
once at that!) to get her to shift right. The "pawls" thing was
mentioned a few times during the fix. I have heard 4 speeds are a real
pain in the neck, to say the least and keep the language clean, to set
up. I do remember Moe at Cycle Garden telling me to be careful with the
repair manual as something in one of the figures was shown either
backwards or upside down! Fortunately, my old mechanic was wise enough
to figure it out.

Agree here, this happened to mine, mechanic had to remove that lever
with the teeth and reset it either way till she shifted properly.

check the adjustment of the lever on the back of the tranny. meaning the

doodad that actually bolts to the knurled shifter doodad. one tooth
either
way and it's all boogered up.

No melt beverages yet.
It seems to up shift too late,( shifter goes too far down). Doesn't want
to downshift at all.
Cluth works good
Shift lever returns great.
Thanks,
Kev

What exactly do you mean by 'Wont shift properly?' Does it shift at
all? Does the clutch still work properly. Does the shift lever return to
position via return spring. Were you drinking malt beverages trying to
fit
into Dave's shirt while you were wrenching? Usually an adjuster is used
for
adjusting (note smartass sarcastic comment. Sorry). Little more info
needed
here Kev.
