IMO, The chrome panels serve no purpose other than eliminate a wear spot
for paint and add a wear spot for chrome. I would also say that unless you
want to pay a real professional to restore it to its original glory I say
leave it with the well worn patina. That said, there is nothing wrong with a
little custom (right Dave?). I always thought that red with silver panels
(instead of chrome), pinstripes and emblems would look great. Or Italian
green with cream panels and pinstripes. I have seen yellow with black panels
and pinstripes that looked kind of tasty. But opinions are just like assholes
they say, Everyone has one.
Go for what you like,

My questions are, what are the purposes, other than looks, for the
chromed tank panels? And, should one paint the tank a solid color or not,
and if not, then why? The last option is, should I leave it be and allow it's
weathered look considered character?
Just curious of everyone's opinion.
