I had the same problem with the gasket...that being it shrunk and split
leaving a nice gap for fuel to flow out of. Not a nice sight to see gas
running over the newly painted tank.

I found a source of gas resistant rubber material (1/8" thick) and took the
cap apart. Yeah the nut on top was peened...I just backed the nut off with
a socket.....seems to be soft metal. Pretty easy to figure it all out once
you get everything apart

Once everything was apart I cut out a new piece of gasket using the old one
as a template.....put everything back together and used Loctite on the nut.
Did two of them......so far so good.

Regards....Ian

 Questions:
I fought with 2 gas caps before I figured out that I indeed have the flip
up
with lever cap type tank. Fortunately I had a sevicable one on a battered
old tank I had. Popped that sucker in place after a quick run on the
buffer....yowsa! One problem. There seems to be an 1/8" gap in the rubber
gasket under the cap. It's on the left (downhill) side and if I put the
bike
on its side stand it will leak. It appears the the bolt under the cap is
peened so you cant take the nut off. true? shoud that gasket have that gap?
Are these caps rebuildable?

I got the newer petcocks and adaptors from Moto International. You guys
running these, do you need gaskets in the adaptors?
