On my MI adapter/petcock setup there is a gasket/sealing washer between each
adapter and the tank and between the petcocks and adapters (down inside the
attaching nut).
To get the petcocks turned the desired direction, turn the attaching nut on the
petcock body. By trial and error you'll find how to turn it to get a good seal
and have the outlets pointed correctly.
With the adapters you loose the filter screens but retain the reserve tubes. I
run inline fuel filters anyway, so this isn't a problem.

Questions: I fought with 2 gas caps before I figured out that I indeed have the flip up with lever cap type tank. Fortunately I had a sevicable one on a battered old tank I had. Popped that sucker in place after a quick run on the buffer....yowsa! One problem. There seems to be an 1/8" gap in the rubber gasket under the cap. It's on the left (downhill) side and if I put the bike on its side stand it will leak. It appears the the bolt under the cap is peened so you cant take the nut off. true? shoud that gasket have that gap? Are these caps rebuildable? I got the newer petcocks and adaptors from Moto International.
