Thanks Mark,
I did get the thing out via the Master Appliance Heat Gun (thanks for
the suggestion Robert) and new pair of Channelock self gripping pliers
method. Found out that the parts had a bad case of "Previous Owner
Syndrome". Apparently the speedo cable drive's shaft had come out at
some time. The PO did not remove the swing arm to inspect what was going
on, but merely started cranking down on the ferrule, forcing the speedo
drive shaft right through the washers that go on the lower end of the
shaft. He bent the crap out of the washers with his strong-arm
tactics.....moron.
Anyway, at least the rear cover is all cleaned up now although its
coloration is different than that of the trans housing. I guess it won't
matter as I'm not shooting for "perfect" on the bike.
