Tom,
This is just a suggestion. I have found that warming things up, as you say,
with a propane torch is sometimes tricky. Just wondering if you have ever
tried using a heat gun to warm up parts. I just used a heat gun to warm up
my pistons, pulled the wrist pins out of the freezer and got my pistons onto
the rods just fine, almost no tools needed. I noticed that the heat gun
heats much more evenly than a torch. Again, just a suggestion.

OK, so I've got the transmission case looking like a million bucks.
Next, it's time to work on the rear cover, so I figured I'd pull the
speedometer drive gear out so that I don't get whatchamacallic acid down
inside of it. I also wanted to clean up the damage done by the PO's
water pump pliers on the brass fitting where the cable attaches to the
rear cover. The only problem is that the thing is S-T-U-C-K! Any
thoughts as to how I might get the fitting out while I am searching
around for my propane torch to warm things up?
