Hi GK & All,
The (Marelli) starter on my '69 Ambassador spins a little slow as well but
always starts the bike. It's my understanding that this is a characteristic
of the Marelli. I've heard the Bosch unit switches current to the solenoid
off after engagement, the Marelli energizes the solenoid full time during
starter operation. So even though the Bosch unit is rated slightly less
powerful, it uses the voltage to better effect. Somebody correct me if I'm
wrong...

Hello,
I'm new to this site and already I have found it useful. I have a 70
Ambassador that I rebuilt last year. I had a popping in the right
cylinder at idle all last summer. I have had that carb out of the bike
a half dozen times. I'll try the timing.
The other problem I have is low starter rpms. It's like I always have
a dead battery. I had the starter rebuilt and the generator is putting
out the proper voltage. My battery was new last year (the guy said it's
the one they use in the Harleys) but maybe it's to small. Can anyone
recommend a good one? Or did I get a bad starter rebuild?
