AJ, In case you haven't seen some of the recent discussion, be sure your
piston is at top-dead-center before measuring valve gap. Take font cover
off engine and turn big nut on bottom with wrench. With spark plug off
stick drinking straw or wooden chop-stick (my favorite) into spark plug hole
and be sure piston is all the way up. Then you will be able to adjust
valves accordingly. Bob Hawkes

Ok. I have the valve cover off and using the screwdriver method I have
found TDC. I'm working on the right side (as sitting on the bike).
I have to say I am very uncomfortable in there right now. At least the bike
runs. Very scared of messing up a good thing.
Which is the exhaust valve? The one to the front by the exhaust? Just want
to be sure.
I cannot slide a 0.15mm feeler gauge under either valve, so I am guessing
that they are too tight as Patrick surmised? Inlet is supposed to be 0.15mm
and exhaust 0.25mm according to my book. Any corrections?
I can't make heads or tails of that torque page on Greg's web site. Its no
good if I don't know what a particular screw is called. Heck my wrench
doesn't go below 10 foot pounds. Valve cover is 7 ft/lbs? Tappets are 15
ft/tbs I guess from the motoguzzishop web site. What about the front cover?
7 ft/lbs too?
Tappet adjustment and valve adjustment is the same? Looks like I loosen
these tappet nuts to loosen the valves.
Thanks,
-AJ
