Talking about all this sump stuff got me to wondering about the boss on the
right side of the Eldo case. Is there any real reason it was put there? If
it was drilled out it would go directly to the rear main. Can it actually be
used for perhaps an external filter system? These blocks have a number of
blanked off points that I guess were plans for future use but just never
made it into production. Anyone know anything more about them?

It's a sump extender that also includes provision for an oil filter,
mounted outside, at the back of the sump extender. It filters oil only
to the rear main and rear cam bearing, but that's better than no filter
at all.
