Subject: Oil pressure gauge advice?

I'm installing a mechanical oil pressure gauge on the Ambassador so that
I might keep track of, well, oil pressure :> The kit came with some very
tightly coiled, small diameter, hard plastic hose. I was able to get it
pretty straight by dipping it in boiling water (as per the instructions
that came with the kit). Worked like a charm.
I'm contemplating running the plastic hose inside a length of rubber
vacuum hose from the engine block up to the gauge in order to afford the
line greater protection. Any thoughts on this or related suggestions?
