Hi Rob,
Thanks for the pointers and the offer to spend the night...I appreciate
it. I'll definitely make my own way northward, but it is always nice to
get some pointers from folks who have gone before me. I've done a lot of
riding and driving in the midwest and quite a bit in the west, but the
east north of Georgia is new territory for me. I'm pretty sure it will
take longer to turn the odometer than what I'm used to. But, it will be
adventurous fun and I'm looking forward to meeting a bunch of new
people.

Greg, I agree that a lot of the fun is in the planning so I won't try to plan your route for you, but I strongly agree that the 250 is awesome, especially near the VA/WV line. Monterey has a nice down-home diner I recommend. Be aware that riding the 250 will add significant time to your trip. As far as the BRP goes, IMHO it's a two edged sword. It's nice to avoid truck traffic, but it's such a rarified atmosphere it starts to bother me after a while. I enjoy putt-putting through small towns on my route and "seeing the world". The BRP is more of a nature trail. If you happen to be near Christainsburg VA and need a place to stay, let me know. We'll happily make a place for you (unless we've already left for the rally!).
