Paul, Ted -
Maybe I didn't describe my problem too well. The starter button and the
solenoid are both new and are working every time I hit the button. The
starter button energizes the relay, the relay energizes the solenoid,
and the solenoid pulls the starter gear forward 100% of the time.
What ISN'T working is that the starter gear doesn't engage the big ring
gear cleanly every time. Two out of three tries, it grinds without
engaging; the third time, it will turn the motor over.
I was wondering if there is some physical adjustment to the position of
the starter in relation to the flywheel that I could make that would
increase the chances that the gears would engage without this
embarassing interlude.....I'm hoping that I'm not the first or only one
to have this problem with a loop and that someone else can share their
solution.
Thanks!
