Bill,
The only thing you really need to pay attention to is the mark on the crank
and the mark on the new flywheel. I just lined everything up with the mark
on the tranny housing, removed old clutch and installed new Ram making sure
to line the marks up. That was it, or you can follow my 37 step program
below. Beer drinking is NOT an option. :)
1. Remove tranny from engine
2. Drink a beer
3. Make sure timing marks on flywheel are lined up with mark on bell
housing at the 10 o'clock position (when looking at the rear of the motor)
4. Drink a beer
5. Remove all bolts securing starter ring gear and toss in trash
6. Drink a beer
7. Remove old crappy clutch plates and warped intermediate plate and
toss in trash with bolts from previous step
8. Drink a beer
9. Toss clutch springs in trash also
10. Drink a beer
11. Remove bolts securing the heavier than crap flywheel from crank
12. Drink a beer
13. Remove the heavier than crap flywheel being careful not to drop it
on your toes
14. Drink a beer
15. Use old flywheel to crush empty beer cans
16. Drink a beer
17. Take new shiny big disk looking thing out of box
18. Drink a beer
19. Look for mark on side of big shiny thing and line this up with white
paint dab on crank and 10 o'clock mark on bell housing
20. Drink a beer
21. Apply red loctite to new bolts found in box that big shiny thing
came out of
22. Drink a beer
23. Put new bolts thru little holes in middle of big shiny thing and
using that super expensive torque thingy, crank down on those bad boys in a
cross order to 28-20 ft/lbs
24. Drink a beer
25. Put some grease of sorts in dimple in center of big shiny thing
26. Drink a beer
27. Step back to admire your superb mechanical feat
28. Drink a beer
29. Remove old worn out input hub from tranny in any way you see fit
30. Drink a beer
31. Place new skinny input hub over shaft sticking out of tranny
32. Drink a beer
33. Replace old star washer and nut or use the new improved version
(obtainable from MG Cycle) and tighten it all up and bend tabs to prevent
nut from falling off while you go cruising
34. Drink a beer
35. Attach tranny to motor. Use a long screwdriver to move input hub
slightly to engage new big shiny thing
36. Drink a beer
37. You know the rest.....
By the time you finish this and have drunk all the beer recommended, you
will be too wasted to even attempt to try ride the bike. Drink another beer
then call it a night.

I know in the past there has been some discussion on clutch
replacement, but here's another for the great minds gathered on this
forum...
I am ordering a RAM clutch from MG Cycle tomorrow, what should I know
before installation? I remember reading some stuff on replacing a
traditional clutch and needing an alignment tool, is this needed for the
installation of a RAM clutch? According to MG's site, it looks like it
comes assembled, does that mean all I need to do is to take out the old one
and pop in the new? What else should I replace while I'm in there?
Thanks in advance,
Bill
