I thought I remember the shaft having a slot cut in it (but I'm
remembering this from my G5). Not sure why. I'm not talking about the
woodruff key slot- there was another slot on the end of the shaft (like
a screw head). Maybe its so you can turn the oil pump and see if it's
free?

When tightening, I just jambed a pry bar in the ring gear (after removing the starter) and used a torque wrench to get it to the appropriate value.
