Hi Ted,
Sounds like your chain may be too worn to reuse and has possibly slipped
a tooth. Guzzilology is really intended to be a suppliment to the shop
manuals. The V700/Ambo/Eldo Shop Manual (at least mine anyways) doesn't
have any info. on timing the cam on chain equipped bikes, so you might
need to get the V7 Sport/750 S/850-T/850-T3 or later shop manual for
that. It's quite simple though - there are (or should be) paint marks on
the camshaft and crankshaft sprockets. These should line up after the
chain and tensioner are installed. I can scan the pertinent illustration
and paragraph for you if needed.

Guzziology says "Guzzi could have made this job easier if they had
punched or scribed timing marks on the gears, but instead we got little
dabs of paint. Fortunately they don't seem to wear off. When properly
positioned, the two painted teeth of the cam gear are supposed to
straddle the one painted tooth of the crank gear. The paint stipe
leading to one of the cam gear's mounting holes aligns with the cam's
drive pin. With the marks aligned, the cam paint mark should be at 10:00
(while facing the front of the engine)".

I did a timing chain w/master link and Valtek tensioner on a friends
Eldo a few years back and remember it as not being too hard. With the
endless chain you'll need to pull the sprockets off for installation.
Moto International sends a Help Sheet with the parts when you buy from
them which has plenty of tips to ease installation. I can also scan this
as well if needed. Cheers,

Pumpkin as suggested) and there is a chain in thar. The chain is VERY
loose,
it will touch the sides of the case with some left over. I'm guessing

reason my bike isn't running is the chain slipped a link and timing got
bunged. What do I do now?

There is a little item that looks like a tensioner that slides right to
left
if you loosen the two bolts, but it doesn't look like it would do
anything
even if the chain were already tight. I slid it all the way in (towards
the
center) and it does nothing. Is there another way of removing slack or
do I
have to get a new chain?

Also I guess I'll get a book so I don't have to bother you guys with
this
stuff (like how to align all the gears correctly and get the chain in
place
etc...) Does guzziology cover all this stuff or should I get a shop
manual?
